Walk off the Earth

Now, I know that a number of you in the class like the Gotye song “Somebody that I used to know”. It’s one of my favourites too. In the holidays I came across this cover by Walk Off the Earth and I think it’s pretty good. Apart from the music though what else do you notice about this video clip? Can it teach us anything do you think?

    1. Pam Thompson says:

Actually Kellie, they do have quite a few. You can search for them with Walk Off the Earth.

    Hi it is Annie,
What I picked up from the video was that is was about team work and never giving up. How I got this was imagine how much they would have had to practise as you would have to practise on your own and then bring everything together. I got teamwork because they would have had to work together to learn to play it and not fight and work well because if one of them was mucking around then it would stuff up everyone else.
I hope everyone enjoyed the video as much as I did.

    Hey Pam,
I think they were really good and they were using team work. Espicially on the guitar how they all had one different job to do as well as the singing. I would say that you are trying to encourage us to use team work. :)

I think it’s very clever how they worked out who plays what. One thing I noticed is that the person singing the chorus puts heaps of expression on his face. Also, have you seen the original vidio? I think it’s really good.

  5. Jasmine says:

    Hi Pam and Miss McDonald,

That is so cool! The whole of my family thinks it is really clever. They are all playing the guitar and nothing else. Even the drum is done on the guitar.

I really like the strip across the top.

    Thanks for showing us that!
Bye for now. Jasmine. ; )

  6. Zoe says:

    Hi it’s Zoe:)

That was awesome! They are so cool it’s like a whole band playing on one guitar. The drums were even played on the guitar as well! Personaly I couldn’t do that because everyone would be to close to me, I would hate it. Also I looked at their other videos as well. They do covers of songs very differently.

    Regards Zoe:) ;)

  7. Lucas says:

    Hi Pam,
That is some serious team work. They’re no only plaing the guitar part, but the drums and xylophone as well! You can see that some times they close their eyes in concentration. That must have take a long time and lots of effort to get to that level.
I think you are trying to show us what teamwork can achieve and that we should try harder to work together.
    Lucas

That is a Nice video from what I hear from your students.

Hi, My name is Victoria. But you can call me Tori.
I am in the grade 6 and woriking on my blogging. My teacher assigns us to comment on blogs. But there is rules to it and I think you know what they are and your students. They do really good jobs at it.

From What I read by commets and your publish, It looks like your trying to show us teamwork. Teamwork to me is very important. And I think alot of people should spread that, and your doing a good job at it.

  9. Sira says:

    Hi Pam,

They worked really well as a team. I liked how everyone played the guitar and they even used it as a drum. I think it would be pretty hard for 5 people to play one guitar but they made it look so easy. I think they did a really good job.

    Bye, Sira

  10. Ella says:

    Hi Pam,
This is a really cool video! Also thats some good team work! :P
I like how one of them are playing the drums on the end of the guitar.
It teaches us that we all can work as a team even if there is only one girl.
They are really talented and after I finish righting this, I’m going straight to youtube to see there other videos!
    Bye for now,
    Ella :)

  11. Liam says:

    Hi Pam.
I think the clip is AMAZING! They are a tight ensemble. I think that the lesson you are trying to teach us is about team work. They couldn’t play it on one guitar without team work.
I have noticed that we have been using team work in class.
    See you later.

    Liam

  12. GeorgiaK says:

HI Pam I really like this video I think this about team work! I like it how one person is singing then the rest are either playing the guitar or playing the drums any-way see-ya

  13. Lachlan says:

This is a really god example of teamwork they’re all cramped up but they can work it out, one instrument, five players, it’s just amazing.

I like how there is one playing drums on the end.

  14. madeline says:

WOW! (by the way it’s Madeline)

I think that video shows us that with teamwork we can make something really amazing!

    Bye

    Madeline :)

  15. Callum says:

    Hi it’s Callum,

I don’t like that song that much but that is kind of awesome. I’m not sure if you would get a better sound from three different guitars. But it wouldn’t be as cool. Also how long did they practice to do that.

    SEE-YA

  16. Holly says:

    Hi Pam and Miss McDonald,

wow that is video amazing! I could never do that. I think this video is definately about teamwork. Imagine how long that would take to get that right! It really proves that if you use team work you can make some thing amazing:)

  19. Andrea says:

    Hi Room 13,

It’s Andrea (Liam’s mum). I’ve really enjoyed reading your blog and all of your clever comments about the video.
I agree that there is no way that the band could have achieved this performance without great teamwork. What I loved about it was that the teamwork became part of the performance – every detail of the music was highlighted. I also think that they were very theatrical in a simplistic way; do you know the expression “less is more”? Our family LOVE Gotye and we thought Walk Off the Earth’s cover of this song was brilliant. If you get a chance, check out their cover of “Party Rock Anthem”; what a hoot!
    Have a great weekend,
    Andrea

    1. Pam Thompson says:

      Hi Andrea.
Thanks so much for leaving us a comment. I love Gotye too. Actually this group have done some pretty good covers of a variety of songs. I agree that the strength of this performance is “less is more”.

  20. Sophie S says:

    Hi
That is a great music video. It just shows that you can share one guitar with lots of people. (in other words team work) I found it interesting

    Gary(Holly’s Dad)

  22. Zac says:

    Hello

It would of taken ages to get it right.

  23. Jackson says:

    Hey Pam,
I’m not shore if its working for any one elses computer but its not working for me.

  24. Chelsey says:
