We really had to have our thinking caps on today. We had a visit from Carol from the CSIRO with a program called Forensic Frenzy. We were given details of a real-life crime and we had to use some forensic techniques to analyse the evidence and work out the cattle duffer (thief).
We looked at fingerprinting, tyre tracks, overbranding, blood analysis, teethmarks, DNA, glass & paint analysis, and stomach contents. We were all fascinated by the experiments we did and how different types of science are used to help support evidence gathered.
I definitely think we have some budding scientists in our class! I even had trouble getting them to leave their experiments to go out for lunch!
Earlier this term we were given a link by Mr Bartley to a website where you can create your own mosaics. We had a lot of fun on this site and created some interesting mosaics of our own.
As you know we have recently looked at the characters in Animal Farm, especially the pigs and their characteristics as leaders. What a coincidence then that I was visiting another class blog and found that one of the students had written a post about Animal Farm, and the characters, on their own blog. I think it’s worth a look. So go along and have a read of Sugar Candy Mountain’s blog - remember that was the promised land!
For those efficient students who have already handed in their books here are your words so you can practise for your spelling test
As part of Come Out Week our school had a visiting performance of The Magic Waterhole – a traditional Sudanes folktale. It was organised & performed by a group from the Miigrant Resource Centre in Adelaide. They came from various African countries, including Liberia, South Africa & Sudan. It was a great performance, with wonderful African drumming & dancing. It proved that you can provide great etertainment with minimal props & costumes.
Students were entranced by the energy & enthusiasm of the performers. They enjoyed it so much that nobody complained about missing half of their lunchtime. The giggling was contagious & most of us left with smiles on our faces. If you get a chance to see this show, go for it!
We’re well on our way to finalising our casting for our play “Cindy Anna Bones & the Pimple of Doom”. It has been a tough job as all of the students auditioning have done a great job. They are proving that they fit into the Risk-taker IB Learner Profile as they concentrate on putting themselves into character. I’m really looking forward to seeing how their characters develop. Parents will be able to see their performance in Week 9 of this term.

to the following students who have already won parts:
Tarn; Curt; Ruth; Chris; Kye; Mac; Blake; Brodie; Jesse; and Sammi
We’ve started auditions for our play “Cindy Anna Bones & the Pimple of Doom” – a parody of Indiana Jones. Everyone has done such a good job, so well done for having a go.
We have videoed some of the auditions but I have had a lot of trouble with getting them off our new Flip video. However, here is one of them.
Who do you think should be Cindy Anna & James Blond? Tough, isn’t it?
Isn’t that what they say to wish actors good luck? Well, that’s me wishing you good luck in your auditions for a part in our play “Cindy Anna Bones & the Pimple of Doom”.
So, do you have what it takes to be the adventurous Cindy Anna, or the devious Mouldfinger? How about the dashing James Blond? I’m looking forward to seeing your interpretations this week.
Yura has left us a comment and put a new post on his blog so you may like to visit and leave him a comment.
